Step-by-step process
- 1
Run a trademark availability search in the DPDT database and the trademark journal.
- 2
Pick the correct Nice class(es) for your goods or services.
- 3
File the application (Form TM-1) per class with the fee.
- 4
DPDT examines the application; reply to any objection.
- 5
Accepted marks are published in the Trademark Journal.
- 6
Two-month opposition window — defend if someone opposes.
- 7
Pay the registration fee and receive the registration certificate.
Renewal and penalties
Renewal & compliance
Renew before expiry (first term 7 years, then 10 years each). Late renewal is possible within a grace period with extra fee.
If you skip it
Without registration you rely on harder passing-off claims; a registered mark lets you take faster action against infringers and customs seizure of counterfeit goods.
Common mistakes we fix
- Filing in the wrong class, leaving the real product unprotected.
- Choosing a generic or descriptive word that DPDT will refuse.
- Skipping the search and losing time to an opposition.
- Missing the journal publication / opposition deadlines.
Frequently asked questions
How long does trademark registration take in Bangladesh?
Usually 12–24 months, depending on examination and whether anyone files an opposition after journal publication.
Can I use ® after filing?
Use ™ after filing. Use ® only after the registration certificate is issued.
Do I need a separate application for each class?
Yes, the fee and examination are per class. We help you pick the classes that matter now and later.
