Quick answer: Bangladesh now runs most core business registrations online — e-TIN, e-return, VAT (IVAS), RJSC name clearance and incorporation, city-corporation trade licences, DoE environmental clearance and BIDA's One Stop Service. Used well, they cut weeks from paperwork.
Technology in Bangladeshi business is not only about apps and AI tools. The biggest everyday time-saver for a small business is using the government's own digital services correctly.
1. e-TIN — instant and free
Register on the NBR e-TIN portal with an NID-linked mobile number. The certificate downloads immediately. Never create a second TIN — recover the old one instead.
2. Online income tax return
Individuals can file returns online; companies file within their deadline (most by 15 January). Keep the acknowledgement — it is your proof of return, needed for many licences and loans.
3. VAT online (IVAS)
BIN registration, monthly Mushak 9.1 returns and payments run on vat.gov.bd. File a nil return in months with no sales — missing returns attract penalties.
4. RJSC online
Name clearance, incorporation, annual returns and certified copies run through the RJSC portals. Late annual returns cost Tk 500 a day (capped per document) and can eventually lead to a company being struck off.
5. e-Trade licence
Dhaka North and Dhaka South City Corporations accept online trade licence applications and renewals — renew before 30 September to avoid surcharge.
6. DoE and BIDA portals
Factories apply for environmental clearance on ecc.doe.gov.bd, and foreign investors use BIDA's One Stop Service for branch offices, visas and work permits.
Three habits that make digital compliance work
- One name, one address everywhere. Mismatches between trade licence, BIN, TIN and bank are the top cause of rejections.
- A compliance calendar. Put the 15th-of-the-month VAT date and the 30 September trade licence date in your calendar — or use ours.
- Scanned document library. Keep clear PDFs of NIDs, incorporation papers, rent deeds and licences in one secure folder.
